Now you have all the components, let’s assembly it.
The rig will create a lot of heat. It will need to be placed on a fresh air flow in a ventilated room. So, a standard Computer ATX Case is not the ideal choice.
My personal rig was constructed with wooden bars of 25mm width. You can do almost every shape you want. And it it open frame.
Mother Board preparation
MotherBoard preparation shall be performed without any Power Supply plugged.
The delicate thing to do is installing the CPU. You can follow the very nice Intel web site for that. The following process applies for both CPU models Intel Celeron G1820 and Intel Celeron G1840 as listed in Part 1 of Home Made Cryptocurrency Mining Rig :
1- Push the lever down to unclip it (1) and lift it (2).
2- Open the load plate.
3- Remove the protective cover from the load plate. Do not discard the protective cover. Always replace the socket cover if the processor is removed from the socket.
4- Do not touch the socket contacts or the bottom of the processor.
5- Hold the processor with your thumb and index fingers. Make sure that the socket notches align with the processor notches. Lower the processor straight down, without tilting or sliding the processor in the socket. Gently release the processor, making sure that it is seated correctly in the socket.
6- Very little force is required to close the load plate. Press down on the load plate, close, and engage the socket lever.
7- With the motherboard installed in the chassis, put the fan heat sink on the motherboard, aligning the fasteners through the holes. Align the fasteners through the holes properly, or you risk damaging the bottom of the fasteners. Also be careful not to damage the thermal interface material attached to the bottom of the fan heat sink.
8- Push down on the top of each of the fasteners in an alternate pattern, as shown below, while holding the fan heat sink in place. You should hear a “click” when pushing down each fastener. Gently pull up on each fastener to make sure all four fasteners are securely attached. An unattached fastener prevents a good seal between the fan-heat sink and processor, and can result in unreliable operation of the processor.
9- Connect the processor 4-wire fan cable connector to the motherboard 4-pin CPU fan header. (The processor 4-wire fan cable connector can be connected to a motherboard 3-pin CPU fan header if a 4-pin CPU fan header is unavailable.)
DDR3 DIMM “RAM” Installation
Connect the Hard drive Sata connector to one of the motherboard Sata connector. Plug it to the PSU cable. In my rig I use the same PSU cable for multiple GPU risers and the Hard Drive.
Connect each GPU on its Riser PCI-E slot. Attach the connected GPU on the rig frame. Then connect each rise to the PCI-E slots of the motherboard with the USB cable and connector.
Connect the Power Plug (molex) of each riser to the PSU Cable. In my rig I use the same PSU cable for multiple GPU risers and the Hard Drive.
Powering all components
Follow your MotherBoard and PSU guide for the mother board connection.
For the GPU, calculate to total power you’ll need per PSU. GPU should not use more power than what the PSU can supply. in my case, i have 3 GPU connected to the 1000W Corsair PSU and 2 GPU connected to the 750W Corsair PSU .
Use one cable per GPU and connect it to the specific PSU PCI-E connector. All GPU have different connector number and size. use all of them. e.g. in below image, you should connect both 6pin and 8pin connector on the same cable to PCI-E plug on PSU.
If you use multiple PSU (like me), insert a “jumper”between “PWR ON” and “GND” on the PSU that do not power the motherboard. Otherwise, this PSU will not start.
Start the system
Verify everything is properly connected. To start the Motherboard find these connectors. You can manually Power your rig by positioning a flat screw driver connecting the two pins named PWRBTN and GND. Or just connect a permanent Power Button between PWRBTN and GND.
